This is my challenge quilt for my guild's 25 anniversary. I got my inspiration from Sometimes Crafter's logo on her blog. I have always loved it and I knew that it was perfect for this challenge. We have to have 25 things in the quilt, use the sparkly black and shiny silver fabric, and it has to say happy birthday (I haven't done that part yet).
I LOVE IT! I used a charm park of Momo by wonderland that I have been hoarding for a long time!I think the scissor print really are the icing on the cake because this is to celebrate my guild. Those scissors are perfection.
I had to do the mini a little different than Sometimes Crafter's logo because I needed to have 25 things so I made the corners have whole circles with the scissor prints.
I echo quilted the outside and I really wanted the circles to pop so I just did some small stippling in the middle. I really wanted to hand embroider happy birthday but I can't do hand sewing very well. eeeeek. I think I am going to take it to a friend who has a super awesome embroidery machine. I will show an update when I get that part finished.
I have to say that my biggest challenge was to incorporate the shiny silver fabric and sparkly black fabric. I just didn't know how to use it and I knew I wanted to use SC's logo. So this is what I came up with.
My guild is very traditional. I am the youngest by uhhhh let's say some years. I love those ladies though and I know they can teach me a lot. BUT everyone that made a challenge quilt will give it in secret and they will hang them at the next guild meeting. Everyone will vote for the favorite to win the challenge. I won't be there for the meeting because we will be going to a meeting for my husband. SO I am so curious if mine is going to stand out in the crowd. I wonder if it is going to be more modern than most of them. I am going to ask someone to take some pictures for me. But I really do hope I win.
On a side note. Have you checked out Sometimes Crafter's website and check out her patterns too. We have emailed back and forth several times and she is so sweet. We have talked about how she is such a process blogger and I think that is something that I really love about her blog. I love that she shares her process where I think I am more of a finished product sharer. Also she and Diane have a new book coming out, Quilting Happiness. Seriously people isn't that a great name. Maybe I can do a book review when it comes out. I am so excited about it. Oh I just acted like I am bff's with Diane and Christina... I only wish. They are both some amazing bloggers but also fabulous creators. I love their creations and how their brains work. (am I the only one that thinks like that? wanna jump in their creative brains!)
I wanted to link up to Modern Mini Quilt Challenge 2013 on Ellison Lane but I missed the deadline by minutes. Seriously minutes. :( Maybe next time.
